I had the pleasure and good luck of being invited out sailing this last Sunday by one of my neighbors. It was the perfect thing to do on a lazy Sunday afternoon. It was breezy and warm on the Potomac (which is a little unusual for August in the DC area). I brought some juggling balls and we had a great time keeping balance while we cruised around. Cant wait to go out again!

Mushrooms

I found these light yellow mushrooms growing in my potted plant on my porch. Anyone know if these are normally supposed to be with this type of plant? They look really cool.
Cupcakes
Cupcakes are the most sensible desert solution ever. Little self contained cakes. I used to make cupcakes with a genoise recipe for the cake part. While the little cake had a bit of class to them they typically came out dry and small. They almost had a savory demeanor. My boss recommended I try a buttermilk cake and i’ve been whipping up successful cupcakes ever since.
I found this recipe on gourmet.com to be the perfect mix to achieve light yet consistent cakes. Don’t over cook them though, they’ll taste like cornbread.
Photos from Korea
I was looking through my old suitcase full of film based photos. I found this huge stack of photos from my three years in Korea (2003-2006). They stayed spread out on my dining room table for three days. Every time I stop and look through a few mini-stacks I remember how awesome it was to be 23 years old, in south korea, in the army… Fantastic place and an unbelievably important time in my life.
Then, I was looking through a box of stuff I had left at my parents in storage and found two undeveloped rolls of film from Korea. Going to drop them off tomorrow and see whats on them. Im very excited!
Buttercream Frosting
I love buttercream frosting. Its so simple and quick to make. Literally a stick of butter, 3 cups (more depending on consistency) of powdered sugar, and about two table spoons of heavy cream or whole milk and you have a great icing that can take any kind of flavoring or color.
